From Nioulargue to Voiles de Saint-Tropez

For almost 40 years, every year in Saint-Tropez, during the last week of September and the 1st weekend of October, the world’s finest hulls and rigs, both classic and modern, meet in the Var town.
In 1999, the “Voiles de Saint-Tropez” regattas succeeded the legendary Nioulargue, created in 1981. One day in September 1981, two boats, “Pride” and “Ikra”, challenged each other for sheer fun. The following year, other boats were invited to take part in the event. Patrice de Colmont grew the event in a spirit of camaraderie that made the famous “Nioulargue” unique.

Renamed “Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez” in 1999, the spirit of yesteryear has been preserved. This unique event is a must at the end of the season. It brings together the finest traditional yachts and the latest technology. For the past forty years, the finest classic and modern yachts have come together on the same stretch of water in a unique atmosphere. More than 250 boats and their 4,000 crew members, of all nationalities, take part in the regattas. Enthusiastic amateurs, racers and professional skippers come together around the values of sailing and this shared passion. Owners are often aboard their boats. The spirit of “Les Voiles” is that of the highest sportsmanship, in the friendliest of atmospheres. Participants and spectators alike are looking to experience unforgettable moments and take advantage of the beauty of the setting and the mildness of the late-season tropézienne.
